my x-10 ballast
Aug 29th, 2012 at 6:04pm

Hey all
so i bought new pumps for my ballast on my 01 x-10. i went to the boat and saw that i was wrong about what i was doing. there are red cylinder looking things under the motor which i assumed was the pumps. now i believe these to be the back flow and shut of valves, because i found 3 johnson pumps going through the hull on the back wall of the boat. i already purchased 3 tsunami 800 from wake makers. i was very excited about this, but upon seeing this it looks like i need to get new johnson inserts. how hard would it be to switch to the tsunamis, i ask because going through the hull scares me a bit. it seems there is a rubber gasket it passes through but other then that you just tighten the nut on the the pump thread? that .0004 cent plastic nut is the only thing keeping my boat from sinking?

You see there are these pumps that are designed to quickly fill your boat up with water to make it heavier.  Makes perfect sense  Cheesy

Seriously though an underwater through hull does seem scary, but its pretty common. I have quite a few (generator water pickup, AC reverse cycle pickup, etc.).  Some are plastic, some metal.  Follow the instructions with a bit of 3M 5200.  If hose clamps are used, double up in case one fails.  Check for leaks at your first launch then forget about it.  Oh, and periodically check your bilge pumps, which is what really keeps your boat from sinking when the s hits the fan.

Wait...people would ACTUALLY want to add weight to a boat? Wink Wink jk I got that much, but the mechanics are a complete mystery. Sounds scary to me too.

Hahahaha yes I I'm the oddball,  believe or not I'm building to be able to 3000 lbs of ballast and top speed of 15 to get a 3 ft wake so I can try this surfing thing.   I only moved to texas5 years ago.  Surfed until I moved here.
But to get back on topic.  Wake makers.com are very helpful and knowledgable about this type of stuff.  And tyranni thanks yes know a few people of told me yeah that's how they work.  But I have bronze through hull fitting and brass ball valves coming.  Then I will attach the pump then the. Heck valve and some 3m 5200.  But it's a little nerve racking.  Imusing the factory holes though.
