Newest drama on the new boat

So dad opened some of the Galley drawers yesterday and found a ton of termites. We are hopeing we caught them soon enough. But if anyone has any suggestions besides tenting and fumigating wich i think we will do any way just to make sure we get them all.

man I know what you mean. seems everytime you fix on thing something else pops up. I never even thought about termites attacking a boat. I may need to move my chaparral more away from the trees.

Are you certain they are termites? Most of what we have here are eastern subterranean termites. They build their colonies underground and feed on wood above ground. They build mud tubes to protect them during the trip between. They are small and white and need lots of moisture.
If you have termites that do NOT need to live in the ground, they may be formosan or dry wood termites. Externally rare in these parts. They are the ones that require tenting. They can spread by swarming to neighboring structures. Again: almost unheard of here.
If what you have are swarming subterraneans, they wont stick around because a boat on a trailer offers no access to the soil. Toss in a bug bomb and call it good. It's pretty likely you may have seen some variety of flying ant. Easiest way to tell the difference is to look closely at the body. Ants have a segmented body..... Hourglass figure. Termites don't.
I used to work with a pest control guy. Good money, work sucks.
. Let me know if you want me to look at the critters.

First, I misspoke. Formosans are a different variety of subterraneans, not dry wood. Been a while.
Since you found them in a drawer I guess they are probably dry wood. They are usually smaller numbers and eat slower. Bad news is, if a couple fly to a neighboring structure you have a problem.
A pro should look at them to determine the variety. If the boat needs tented, you can probably find a company that will let you do it yourself with duct tape and plastic. Then all they have to do is pump in the gas. Should save some money.
I googled a bit and was surprised to find that both types of termites are common in boats. Something else to watch out for.

Crap. The pics aren't hi res enough to tell, but it looks like I can see some termites. They look like white ants, but they don't have a segmented body like ants do. Kind of like a grain of rice with legs and a head.
If that's the case, they are definitely Subterraneans, and I don't imagine you'd have to tent. Call some independant exterminators and I'll bet you'll find one that will do the job for a couple of hundred. Tractor Supply may be an idea for a DIY solution. You'll want to tear out most of the wood in any case. Looks pretty weak.

Sorry to see that. It doesn't look very good.
You might want to consider using King Starboard instead of plywood when you go to replace that damage.
It's pricey, but it won't rot and bugs won't eat it.

Tex,
Depending on your budget. Another option is Fine Lumber Company off of Cameron road. They carry Aquatek marine grade plywood. I still put a coat of resin on it. But for me it last a lot longer then just treated ply with a coat of resin.
