Technically not mechanical: Redoing anchor line
Oct 12th, 2010 at 9:46am

This seemed to be the best place for this question, mods pls move as necessary.

We lost our anchor on a deadman line. The owner of the dock was very nice and offered a dive and retrieval. Went back and picked up our anchor but now our anchor rope has obviously been severed.

Is there a way to reattach that's strong enough or do I have to go out and buy a new 200ft line?

Where in the line did it split. If three stranded, an eyesplice would be strongest and then attach to the chain with a shackle. I'd be glad to help you out if your in the Lake Travis or Lake Austin area this weekend. No charge! LOL!

like sea tow said depends on were the rope was cut, what type of rope it is, and anchor style can make a difference.

If you want a half ass decent set, you need that much for any size boat in 60-70 feet of water.

The line was cut probably at 25 feet from the end of the anchor. It is three-stranded rope but not sure how to do the eye splicing. Won't be at the lake for a bit but is this splicing business difficult?

Anchor is your basic 10lb Danforth from WallyWorld.

All the above listed links are good knots. An eye splice is not that difficult, and is stronger than a knot. There are some great how to videos on you tube.
