Just never use the boat to power an anchor up and the cleat will be fine.
Besides, I can't reach my bow eye!

As long as I stay clear of objects like dock lines, the bobbing method seems to work great so far. But who's to say what's next in the Lake Travis anchor snag gauntlet?

Another hint might be to not use your cleat at all when working an anchor out. I'll take it off the cleat and tie it to the trailer winch strap "eyebolt". There is a lot more support behind that connection.
Not only does it have more support but it also lessens the chance of a line snapping and coming back and biting someone.
If you can reach, that's actually a pretty damn good idea. Sometimes you just can't help it, you gotta put some boat muscle behind yanking that anchor out.
