Audio! I need some more volume this boating season
Feb 14th, 2010 at 11:19am

I have always been one to spend money on go fast parts for my cars and have skipped the audio completely. Now that I've got a boat that's fast enough for my needs, I need to be able to hear my music while doing some floating/drinking.

I have what I think is a pretty decent Sony deck and my speakers aren't amazing but aren't bad either. I think I'd like to add a sub and maybe a couple more speakers.

Where do I start with this? Any good guides online? Is it as simple as buying an amp, a sub, a box and hooking up wires?

Any good recommendations for Austin area audio guys?

Captain,

Custom Sounds is decent.   But the best by far is Hydrotunes.   They had a couple of boats at the boat show.
They were in the back section with all of the booths.   They did demos every half hour that rocked the convention center.

They do it all and have all the toys / gadgets....LED, towers, subs, amps, video, etc.

My favorite equipment is WetSounds for speakers, JL or MTX for amps and JL or Wetsounds for subs.

I love cruising down the lake with some tunes and we are considerate with our volume when anchored.

I"ve never had a good stereo on any boat I've owned.
I think it may be time to change that -- but will probably go down a more budget-friendly route.

You can get a much improved system without spending a ton of money. If your speakers are decent, a sub and amp can be had for a few hundred.

I have a friend that does really good work. He used to work at Xtreme Sounds. Let me know if you want his number. I know he'll shoot you straight.

I have a pretty good setup on my boat. However, it's not often I'm using it since most of the good get together spots always has some thingy playing music so loud it's pointless to turn yours on.
