New Rules July 1 for all texas lakes

Now you must drain all water from your boat whenever you leave or enter a Texas lake. That includes engine blocks and cooling system to prevent the spread of zebra mussels. Total PITA but so is dealing with an invasive species. These suckers sound nasty.

it will be a pain to drain but it is better than having the zebra mussels take over the lakes. the one thing this does do is helps my decision to stay with outboard

Hmmm.... Do I have to flush at the ramp? Ticket for not draining or ticket for exhaust noise... Wonder which would be cheaper...

As its written it sounds like they want you to drain going out and coming in rather than flush. Flushing would get more lake water out assuming there is access to a hose at your ramp, but draining is easier to test for. If a warden pulls your manifold plug and water comes out, he knows you didn't drain. I would hope if someone drains coming in, they do it far enough away from the water so their run-off doesn't go into the lake. Of course they were supposed to have drained when they pulled out last time. I don't know anyone personally who's been tested yet but guys on the mastercraft forums were talking about being harassed over 4th weekend. With the number of fisherman coming in and out of LBJ with Livewells etc, we're certainly at high risk.

The only exception I've seen is if you pull out and put in the same lake the same day.

With an I/O, even if you did pull all the drain plugs, there's still some water in the bottom of the eng. Actually there all kinds of pockets where water can still be present; hoses, pumps, oil coolers, the list goes on and on.
Flushing is the only way to get all the old water out.

Tyranni, same as here. Original huh. I don't post over there generally, just lurk. Next week I'm going to finish up my replacement of the fuel level sensor system so I might post the steps. Seems all years have a terrible time with the stock level sensor equipment so others might be interested how I do it.

For Zebra Mussel info look it up in relation to the Great Lakes.
They coat everything with very sharp shells.
They add weight to everything. They also clog water intakes, both small and large.
While the cold water in the Great Lakes has preserved hundreds of sunken wooden ships for many years, those wrecks are in danger of being crushed under the weight of rapidly growing mussels.
Given the lack of control of ramps in our lakes, and lack of knowledge of this infestation, and a certain amount of apathy and arrogance, I really believe we are doomed to participate in this pestilence.
We can do our best to slow it down.
Private ramps and marina ramps may be the most difficult to deal with.
As filters, they also make the water clearer so we can see the devastation the little suckers cause.
