New boat crack down on lights

For all you people with the disco led light shows, be warned:
Coming from Florida where I know of guys arrested for impersonating an LEO just by having red or blue lights showing I am suprised it took Texas this long ... Keep the light shows at the slip and everything will be good though..

Apparently, they are about to start cracking down hard on boats with lighting outside what is specifically permitted under Texas boating laws and safety regulations. According to the officer, the trend toward display of new LEDs and other lights on railings, wakeboard towers, decking and even dashboards is causing navigational hazards and serious safety concerns. In some cases, people are displaying flashing lights which are restricted only to law enforcement and rescue-type vessels. (Most of you are aware of the laws, but I posted them below from the Texas Boat Course if you want a refresher.)
The laws are very restrictive and very specific. He said that anyone with ANY lighting displayed outside these regulations will receive a warning for a period of time (unspecified) and soon after they will begin writing tickets (revenue!!). According to him, lights below the surface will NOT be included in the restrictions, however any lights above the waterline outside of the regulations will not be permitted when either underway OR at anchor. He basically said the only time you could display those lights is when you are in a slip ..

That is a load of crap. I get the flashing LEDs but having some LEDs showing through your vents for example should be okay.

Did some reading of the TX water Safety Act about lights, it can get into a pretty gray area of the bolded portion. Also link provided for whole TX Safety Act
Here is what I found: see attach below
