Last weekend I was running with a few other boats and got a solid alarm, slowed it down and saw smoke coming from the engine bay. Looked like the engine spit some oil out of the dipstick.
I did a compression test and one cylinder is down to 30.
Surprises me that it is down on compression when it idles smoothly and revs smoothly as well. No smoke either. I used both engines to put it on the trailer in the wind yesterday, worked really well.
It's a bummer, it's a low hour engine, not ragged out and I've maintained it as well as you could.

Hole in the piston or tuliped a valve. Is this the motor you've had issues with?

Hope it turns out something simple, like valves. Bummer for sure, no matter how you look at it.

Yes it is. The issues I was having turned out to be a corroded alternator cable.
I would absolutely love it to be a valve issue

Smaller than Travis, but clean and clear. Only one Restaurant on the Lake though. Has a party cove if you like those kind things, however this is where the big raft ups are located. It can can be pretty busy on weekends, lots of tubers, jet ski's. Over all, nice little lake. Almost 10' down now, but still many ramps open.
