Checkmate boats closes up shop
May 21st, 2013 at 8:46pm

What a bummer, looked like they had found a new sweet spot in the market with their 26 Convincor. Sure hope they manage to come back from this. Hate to see a good brand go down.

it is closed right now but there is good news buzzing on the checkmate forum.  certain member are talking about their boat that they plan to have built for next year.  I believe that there is another investor coming to help Doug (former owner of Baja) and they will adjust their focus on what boats they offer to be profitable.  we are all hoping to have good news with in a week.  a lot of people believe that just like your other thread the used boat market is hurting the performance boat market as you can buy a used boat a lot cheaper that a new one.  the owner of pier 57 says it best.  I will post as soon as something breaks on this situation.  I can tell you that they are still building interiors that had already been ordered and finishing boats that had already been sold.  And in a few weeks they plan to start taking new orders for replacement interiors.

Looks pretty bad. Generally people don't want to put down payments on boats at a shop that has recently closed its doors.

It would be great if they could come through though.

Right now all the speculation points to an investor coming to help with the rising cost.  they also speculating that they may change the line up of boats.

it has not been made official yet but it looks like hustler is purchasing checkmate.  if you call the checkmate phone number the recording says welcome to hustler!!  so it looks like they have a future.
