Would you buy an older boat redone?
May 21st, 2013 at 8:36pm

It seems like more and more we are seeing older boats on the market that have been redone. A lot of quality boats, like Cig, Fountain, Formula that are 20+ years old. New interior, great new paint, new engines and all at a pretty reasonable price. Definitely a result of new boats being so expensive in comparison to going this route on solid older boats.

So what do you guys think, if you were in the market for a larger boat and it was redone properly, would you do it?

Or would you prefer a newer used boat?

For the sake of argument, no rotten transom, stringers etc.

yes if the boat has been redone properly then it should be just as a new one at half to a third of the price of a new one.

More boat for the price!!!

Works for me! Got mine for less than 1/5th the price of a new one and hull is almost like new. After a couple of beers, you won't even notice the difference!

BTW, that's a cool looking T/G!

$68K asking price is a heck of a deal.  Likely get it for low-$60's.  Motorhomes and boats are items that you never ever buy new unless you have money to burn.

I am a retro guy myself so a classic solid boat that has been well cared for with enough refreshes would always be my first choice.

same problem in the wakeboard boats.  i bought mine for 20k and now they are going for 30k.  cant touch a malibu or a mastercraft for under 90k now.  so i can see why.  and the mastercraft forum has allot of great people on it.  allot of them on 2nd engine and interior replacements.
