Those darn gaskets can be rather deceiving. The externals can look fairly new, but the internals be darn near gone. The way the water seems to be leaking out around the bolt like it is says that one of the water passages has worn away towards the bolt hole and is allowing water to escape there. 15 minute job with normal hand tools. Were I home I could do it for you. Very simple job though. And while you have the riser off, take a look at them and you the mani's as well. You would be amazed.
The exhaust on the Pachanga before I replaced it all.
Bad for flow to say the least. Once the cooling galleys all fill close up with rust and such, the chance for reversion is greater. Hope this helps.

Wow that is a nightmare in there! How long did you go on that exhaust before it got like that?

the only other possiblity for a bolt like that maybe if there is a chance that water was leaking on the bolt frome the hatch above. but I would not chance it as it could get worst quickly and maybe at a bad time. they are usually easy to get to and replace. the piece of mind would be great! if the bolt is part of the water passage you may want to use a sealer like indian head to make sure the water is not coming up the threads, I used it in all my engines.

Well, funny you should ask that Evan, you can say I know first hand that reversion is more likely when your manifolds look like that. It ended up popping my block in the Pachanga, so I built a SBC for it. Such is life.

Wah the more I think about the more I'm gonna do it next month. My alternator went out the other day. Right when a friend of mine from California showed up. Any one have a good guy for taking it to?

Good luck with the Alternator, what year/type of engine is it off of? I know the older Mercs use a single wire exciter type alternator and are a little more difficult to find. Newer ones are a little different and more easily found. Are you trying to have rebuilt? Or buy new?

take the alternator to texas alternator! they are on IH35 north of runberg I believe. they can usually fix them, unless they are burned like mine was, and can do it for less than a new one.

At least that sad story has a happy ending.

A new alternator for a 2001 boat is going to be around 200 dollars new. just dont look into a car alternator. marine alternator suppress the electrical sparks. a car alternator will work like a ticking time bomb with the gass fumes that build up in the engine compartment. good luck texas alternator will test and inspect the alternator and give you a quote for free.

It seems Marine and Race applications have a lot in common when it comes to parts. I am sure the happy sealed drag alternators will run just fine, but the price stinks. Glad you found one for a decent price. I paid 365 for my Pachanga Alternator, as West Marine in Bristol RI was the only one that had one for me (when I was up there visiting family with the ole girl). You still getting the other rebuilt?

west marine is the list price of the parts places, ski dim is pretty good on the master craft parts. i will send the rebuild in eventually. I'm not in a hurry gotta recoup from xmas and a buddy getting married i had to go buy a new suit so the cash funds are a little low. can't wait for my slow season to be over.

I am definitely also going to take it easy for some cash recovery, missing a few weekends here before it gets busy is okay.
