Recent Devil's Cove Pictures

These are from October 2011.  OK, a little depressing.

Is anyone missing 1,000 empy beer cans?

Hopefully this link works...

That is so sad. I get so mad when I see people sink beers. I might be interested in a clean up if someone organizes it.

Yeah, I don't get it.   When the Jonestown tie-up and noise restrictions were being debated all we heard was how this cove "belongs to everyone".  Well "everyone" is treating it like a dump.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is 40 years worth of Bud Light cans etc.

Does LCRA have some community service people available to pick up trash instead of highways? That is a very fertile trash ground.

Still not as bad as an "Occupy" rally.

That is crazy to think people who come out to enjoy the water, scenery etc can't be bothered to take their empties home instead of dumping them over board

I think an organized clean-up project would be great and I will take part. Perhaps the sooner this is cleaned up the higher power upstairs will begin filling the lake again.

Cleaning up the cove would be great but it would not change anything with the lake level. Only thing that will help that is a lot of rain. Travis' problem comes from the fact that it is feed by a constant level lake to the north (lake LBJ) and it feeds a constant level lake to the south (lake austin).  These have been that way and laws are in place to keep them that way so while they stay high travis drains. Plus that there are rice farmer down stream and the river walk in sa that have contracts for so much of the water in travis. It seems that the only thing that does not have a contact for water is travis itself. So inless lbj and austin drop their levels and the river walk and rice farmer take a vacation the only thing that is going help is rain and lots of it.

I agree, I am a big believer in lake karma...it could only help. At the very least we would feel good about a cleaner cove.

I would HOPE this is a rare opportunity to clean it up.

Could tie in a clean up with toys for tots too. Maybe find some sponsors to donate toys per pound of trash collected. I could probably sponsor as well.

Lake Travis feeds the Riverwalk?

The LCRA getting the state to agree to two trigger points a year to release or not release water for the rice farmers is huge.  Simply put the LCRA should not have released water this fall for the second rice harvest.  But that decision had been made in February of this past year.  With two decision triggers the Fall lake release would never have happened.

I didn't know that either until some time in 2009 when we had the other bad drought SAWS (that run the riverwalk) was going to take the LCRA to court for breaking the contact they had for water from lake travis to supply the riverwalk.  LCRA was trying to reduce the water it was letting out of travis.  the riverwalk is part of the colorado river chain.
