We took old timer to Johnstown to do a leak test on the fixes that I did. With the temperature changing as often as it has I decided not to start her and run more water through the block, plus that I know she runs because I started her at the house. What I did find was that the two stuffing boxes and the thru hull transducer (that I modified) were dry. But I did find that there is a good size leak coming from the water inlet hose. It leaks both at the fitting and at the tee to the motor (which is he worst of the two). So now it looks like I will be replacing the water hoses. I could just replace the main inlet hose, but as yall may have noticed I want old timer to be a worry free 1972 boat. So for that reason I am going to pull and replace
all
the coolant hoses. The funniest part of the day was my dad thought it was a dumb idea to take the boat to the lake just to put it the water to look for leaks. He said that I could do that when I plan to take it out. It was great when he said that “I guess this was a good idea, now why don't you just replace all the hose” which I stated you know I will. I may just go ahead and replace the plugs, wires, oil, filter, cop, rotor and point because that will be all that I have left
.

Wow man you really have done a ton of work to that boat in a short period of time. You really might as well just finish and do it all, not much left.

thats what I am hoping for. while vacuuming the carpet I stated thinking that it will not be long before it will need to be replaced. now I am thinking of what I am going to replace it with? maybe carpet, maybe vinyl, maybe wood? what do yall think? right now I need to find the water distribution tube for less than 100 dollars or figure out a way to make one. I guess its time to go to tractor supply for ideas

ok so I was able to get the nasty and oily water lines out. I found that the distribution tube was cracked. so I looked online and found that the cheapest one avaible was around 80 dollars before shipping. so I made a trip to tractor supply and was able to come up with an under 30 dollar fix. it may not be as pretty or small as the original but it can be fixed in pieces. also since this only water that goes throught it is fresh water to the pump, heat and pressure is not a factor
old one
new one
both

update. I started pricing new hoses and WoW
. it was going to be close to 150 to 200 dolars to replace all the hose. and that was not even including the elbows and bends that I would need since there is no direct replacement for the '72 chrysler hoses. so I went through all the hoses and only a few need to be replaced the rest are still in great condition! that should save alot of money. which I need now that I am going to have another project soon!

I finally took the alternator to texas alternator. They checked and it is fryed and cannot be fixed
. so know I am on the hunt for an alternator, just hope I can find a used one because a new one is $160
. the good news is that they checked it for free. This does mean that I may not be able to get her on the water until I can find one.

Yesterday was a good day! I finally was able to find a good price on an alternator for Old timer. I have been watching ebay for one and one came up for bid that is brand new that a guy got for his project but didn't use it. it is a direct replacement for the on I had and even looks like the original. I got it for $100 with shipping. now I just need to get it up to the house after I meet the guy to sell the checkmate! I can't wait.

I had always hoped to keep it. when I put it and the checkmate up for sale I said that the first to sale would be gone and I would keep the other. the checkmate is sold, so old timer get to stay. April doesn't care if I sold either I did it because I don't have room for more than one boat. so on goes the the restoration and the blogs! just waiting to meet the new owner of the checkmate and then I can bring Old Timer it is' new home.

here is an old picture
and after a 3.00 dollar can of spray paint.
I plan to do a lot of sanding and repainting on the trailer soon but for know at least it looks much better!!
