Vinyl seams coming apart
Nov 3rd, 2010 at 4:08pm

Gratefulthreads posting on Shaka's thread reminded me. I have some stitching coming apart on my boat's sun deck. The vinyl is just fine. What's my options to make sure this does not turn in to a big problem? Or should I just do it the lazy way and use the vinyl glue I bought on Shaka's recommendation?

Are there lakeside vinyl places that can do work in my marina?

No real good easy fix.  Good fixes, and easy ones, but not both.  Wink  You can remove the bimbo pad and take it to an upholstery shop.  Probably not more than a half dozen screws.

Bimbo pad, LOL, that's a new one on me Smiley

I'll have to measure it and see if it'll fit in my company car.

In2Deep knows a guy that can fix it, may even pick up and deliver. He fixed mine while it is at Full Throttle.

I'm sure there are some pointers /learning curve hints on how to re-install your "bimbo pad" I love it!

But, I had a hell of time re-installing mine.  I had new vinyl and wood so I didn't have any marking to go off of.   I had to recruit some help because the sun pad is heavy and difficult to lift and place by your self.  I left the piano hinge on the boat because I didn't want to have to redrill holes and rescrew into the glass.    I had to remove my batteries and engine compartment walls and climb inside the engine compartment with a flashlight and a marker.   Then my buddies put the pad in place and I marked where the hinge lined up.

It does take a contortionist to get in there all the way.   I'm not as svelte as I used to be.....actually about 30 lbs overweight. Cry

I just remember it was a PIA to do.

Seems like for such a small seam you should be able to find someone to come and stitch it on the spot.

To really fix that stuff right, you usually have to take the upholstery off and sew it from the inside.

If money is the object, both should be rented.

Update: I got a quote on my little seam and it's about $400-500 to fix it because it has to be completely taken apart. Soooo I think I'll be either leaving it or gluing it until a later date to redo it all.
