another water test
Jun 23rd, 2010 at 10:14pm

My dad and I took old timer out for the first water test.  engine was running great seemed to shift into gear great.  the only issue I saw was a small leak around the output drive from the inboard.  need to fix it and then it should be ready for a longer test.  and the trailer needs some work and it is going to be fun to load by myself.  I need to add side runners to hold the boat side to side and a v runner to help guide the boat to the middle of the trailer.  so time to get to work but even my wife said the boat looked good on the water.   Grin

Gotta have a v-runner or I couldn't imagine what a pain in the ass putting it on the trailer would be. Actually I have some guess, in Belton the ramp is so gentle my v-runner doesn't really work so I gotta center it by hand. Not fun!

Is that leak much trouble?

no just need to check the packing for the drive shaft.  either needs replacing or more added should be easy.

I found that there is a board that is removable with two screws and with it moved the stuffing box is easily accessable.  I found that the fitting was slightly loose, so I tightened it.  I took old timer to the water tonight and didn't see a leak.  I did not take it off or away from the trailer because it is too hard (right now) to load solo.  since I can't just run run up to the front to secure it. I made my up rights for my side runners today out of an old swing set's legs.  now just have to cut the boards and figure out the best way to mount them.  hope to take it to the lake later this week to do the maintance on the trailer and do another water test on the boat.  I am almost there and ready for a cruise on travis on this great boat.

lol thanks!! actually I grew up on a used parts yard ( my grandpa would not let me say junk yard) and I have learned my whole life how its easier and cheaper to reuse what is around you.  I would spend around 150 to 200 for guide on.  mine are going to be 12' long on each side and all if have to buy is 2x4 and carpet (unless it can if some around here).
