Austin Boat Show
Dec 14th, 2009 at 10:14am

Anyone here going to the Austin Boat Show? It is Jan 14 through 17 this year. I would like to buy a boat before Spring so the Austin Boat Show should be a good way to help me figure out what I want.

Absolutely! I've never been to a boat show, so I definitely want to check it out. Hopefully there's a good showing. Is this Austin Boat Show a pretty big event? Any highlights other than just new boats?

I usually go to the boat show with a few friends. It's not hard to twist my arm to spend a day looking at shiny new boats! Definitely a big event with a ton of vendors. I am sure you won't be disappointed.

It's a tradition.   I go every year.    I take my Dad and meet some buddies and check out all the new boats and drink a few beers.   Wear some boat shoes that are easy to get on and off.  A lot of dealers don't allow shoes on their boats, so you are constantly taking your shoes on and off and doing shoe laces.

Last year was super slow.   Hardly anyone there.   I hope the dealers still show.

Make sure you check out the booth area in the back.  It's a good time to check out skis, wakeboards, jackets, etc.  You can get a good deal on last year's models.   Also, I've had luck on Sunday afternoon.   They don't want to have to pack and load it all up and are wheeling and dealing.   One year, I got a bunch of neoprene ski vests for 50% off and another year a nice Duvall double high wrap slalom ski for $100.  Last year, I got a pair of Wetsounds 6.5" speakers on sale (hard to find discounted and no shipping expense to boot).

As far as boats go, my advise is to get some quotes and do some comparison shopping.  Set up appointments to test drive the ones you really like.  Don't buy until you test drive!

That Sunday advice is solid. Last year I got a killer deal on a new wake board.

I hope this show doesn't tempt me too badly to blow a ton of money on a boat I don't need Smiley

I want a wake board tower. I think I'll happily spend that money if I can get a decent deal.

I am thinking my GF and I will be going Friday afternoon. I imagine it won't be as bad as the weekend for people.

We went on Friday after work and the place was deserted. But that was a good thing. We were able to check out everything we wanted without waiting. Pictures coming!
