Title: Hollows Marina Price Increase
Post by Cobalt Blue on Jul 1st, 2013 at 11:45pm
I just received notice of my annual price increase - 14% this year.  I keep my 27' boat in a covered slip, now for $360 per month.  How does this compare to other marinas on the North Shore?

I like the marina, but with the low lake levels, the treacherous ramp down to the docks, the messed up ownership situation at the Hollows, the lame new operators at the restaurant, etc.  I'm thinking it may be time to sell my lake house and head to a better location.

I'm tired of fighting the lake levels, the Jonestown ticket brigade and the Travis CAD.

Possum Kingdom or Lake Texoma are beginning to look like alternatives to me - my home base is Dallas.

lake travis is a great lake but if you are in dallas the other two are closer.  there is also lake whintey (if it doesn't lose much more water).

lake ray hubbard, Lewisville lake, joe pool lake, grapevine lake, and eagle mountain lake are right in your backyard as well

Good luck on your decision.

I think that's in the range other marinas are doing. How big is your actual slip? 28'? I think it is a touch on the expensive side but then again all the north shore marinas are.

I'm at the same marina and was shocked to see the increase y/y. It makes no sense when the only change to our amenities is new ownership.

That's just about what I pay in Lakeway for a similar sized slip, and we have no restaurant, and our ramp is not only closed due to being out of the water...but has collapsed due to undermined foundation (will need repair at some point).

Thanks for the info.  I guess I am paying close to "market".  Writing the check would be easier if we had another 40 feet of water....

That's about what I paid on Travis and LBJ for a 30' slip.  Property tax percentages are edging up and flood insurance took a huge leap this year for some waterfront due to a change in FEMA costs.  Apparently federal flood insurance was subsidized and the program took a big hit with Sandy, its caused prices to climb significantly. I imagine marinas are just passing those costs along. Just a guess. I'd ask the manager, usually they'll give you the scoop as they know a big increase can scare tenants away and likely have a better reason than just "we want more money"
