Title: Running lake Austin

Finished up my boat and was time for a ride. Not sure they really like us on Lake Austin.   But it was good to get some seat time in again.

My understanding is that they hate anything fast and loud :) But hey, screw 'em it's February, not that many people out to be mad.

This bothers me. Poor example for a forum leader.

Inconsiderate boaters make it bad for everyone.

if you are not a wake board boat with extremely loud music coming from it with the ballast bags full then you are not welcome on lake austin.  just ask the fishermen that have had the wake board boats go between them and the bank as they were fishing there.

Funny thing was we did not do anything crazy.  We were way up past Steiner Ranch we get the thumbs down and the glare from this one boat.  We were cruising about 30, small wake at that speed.  So I did a throttle chop when I actually should have turned around and done a big roller wake.  With my Duo prop I can go pretty slow and throw a good size roller but being the nice guy I am I just kept going.

Jim, I think you misunderstood my intentions. Really I agree with the point on being considerate. It makes all the difference. I didn't advocate ripping by anyone at 70 on Lake Austin. I was commenting on the general attitude from Lake Austin that even seeing our boats upsets them. If the go fast boater is being considerate it shouldn't be a problem. If someone with a go fast boat is on Lake Austin and it's not busy, they aren't being rude, they aren't blowing by people fishing and people have a problem that's their own issue. Everyone should be able to get along.

That said, I would personally avoid Lake Austin bc of the attitude. But, being February, I said screw 'em because there's hardly anyone out anyway to be mad you're running.

Just because you can be fast and loud doesn't mean you have to be. I would argue that a go fast on plane is less disruptive than a wake boat putting out a huge wake passing by with bags filled.

Haulin Nuts,   How was the hydrilla?

As a 20' runabout owner with four kids that are into water sports, we love Lake Austin (except the hydrilla).   It was at one time ranked #7 as one of the best water skiing / wake board lakes in the U.S (RIP Trailer Boat magazine).

Your going to get funny looks in "go fast".   Not too many run on the lake because it is so narrow.   However, with Travis being low, there are a few that trailer in on the weekends during the summer.

I get funny looks on LBJ for running open exhaust.   I'll switch it off and never run open early or when dark.

Shaka, your boat is a six right? I remember it sounding good a few years back when we randomly met up on LBJ.

Now look at this sexy boat...I wonder who owns it? ;)

I had a chance to move there,  but chose not to do to the attitude of the lake.  i do everything they dont like,  i also understand shore line corrosion as i have a house in corpus on the water.  i also didn't want to pay for a slip for a year and then find out they put a wake restriction or noise restriction,  whats bad being a decent guy i don't drive around with my bags full,  nor do i really listen to my stereo that loud and only use my towers when some one is riding behind me.  most of the time i have friends on the boat and we talk more then listen.  BTW jim you have been on this board with us for awhile,  i hope that you would understand that none of us advocate being disrespectful to any one.  and i personally took it as just a rant towards an attitude of  the land owners not liking that its a public lake that we should all be welcome to use.  its a bummer that lake is 20 minutes closer to me,  i also don't like it because its to crowded and i cant always find nice water to ride on.
