Title: Spring ABF run???
Post by g on Feb 8th, 2013 at 12:51pm
All,

Last year we had a great ABF meet up in March with several boats making the lunch run to the Gar and then even more meeting us at Devils Cove for the raft-up.

I recommend we have another one.  With the water levels just as low again this year and all public ramps closed, March will be the last month we trailer guys can use the Highland Lakes ramp before it closes to marina members only.
Right now, I'm trying to gauge the interest level.  We can set the date later.  Jay Gadsby was the Organizer-in-Chief last year and did a great job with disseminating info/dates/times.  Perhaps we can convince him to take on the duty again this year :D

Thoughts????

My Dad turns 70 the weekend of the 2nd so we're heading to Houston to throw him a surprise party. If it moves to another weekend in March however I'm on board.

This sounds like fun, but at this point I'm scheduled to run up to LOTO next Friday to pick up.....a new boat.  I won't let the cat out of the bag all the way -- but I will tell you that SS I2D is NOT going away, but rather is getting a stable mate.  I will also say that this boat is likely to pose some healthy competition to my ABF buddies -- on the flat-out speed front....once I learn how to drive it safely and grow slightly bigger....nerve.

'nuff said.  Pics will be provided at a later date.

Congrats.

Oh...a mystery.  I can't wait for the big reveal!  Let's see, LOTO, eh?  Well, not knowing where you bought it, but looking at the "sold" listings on the Performance Boat Center's website, I have a few guesses as contenders for flat-out speed....
Any hints?

My guess is fishing boat with a monster engine. :)

Never know. He could have bought a 100 mph pontoon.

He could out run most of us while cooking burgers.  ;D

checking! I maybe in the area on march 2 but it will be for my sister in law's baby shower.  but maybe I can sneak away and catch a ride with someone. I still have to test the toon some more before I fill good about puttting it on travis.  if you all change weekends let me know.  I will make at least one outing this year.

Hehe.  Jim...I'd like your permission to use Diggin' Deeper.  That is perfect.  Or, perhaps, a variation...Dug In Deeper (probably more accurate).

Hints:

- No, not a pontoon (but I've often considered that).  I get my burger fill on land, and watch the LOTO Shootout to see 98 MPH pontoons run the speed trap.

- No, not a boat that would show up on OSO or Performance Boats, or other performance boat site classifieds, though I still include a quick sift and glance on a daily basis.  Daydreaming habit I can't (won't) break.

- A Whacker.  Big enough to attend to a large yard without breathing hard or breaking a sweat.  Giddyup.

- I'd acknowledge Evan's guess as being on the money -- but that would take most of the fun out of the equation.

So, I since I've taken most of the fun out of the equation....the winner is...

2013 Bass Cat Puma FTD, Dual Console, Merc 250 ProXS, very good electronics, color and graphics that I think are pretty cool.  Theoretically, can run mid to high 70's fully loaded up, as you race to your favorite fishing spot...but only after lots of practice and time behind the wheel.

I'm excited.  Have always wanted a quality fishing boat, and LT has some great spots to go hunting.  As my daughter would say...YOLO.  Will post pics when I figure out how to do that.

Well great. My port engine has started getting an attitude and dropping out on me while running. It's acting like the starboard engine did last Spring. So I'll be replacing all the same parts and see what happens.

I think I'm in still, but if that doesn't fix it I won't be a lot of fun on Saturday!

Oh Man....That sux!  At least you know what the fix was for the starboard motor and since the port motor is exibiting the same symptoms....hopefully it will be a quick-fix

Fingers crossed! Parts should be here in a couple days. I'll put them on Friday night and hopefully should be good to go for the run.

I'm thinking 1100 splash down this Saturday, March 2d at Highland Lakes Marina for the trailer guys.  Any objections or other time recommendations from anyone?

I am down. Doing an oil change, drive oil change, and a quick cleaning this week before Saturday :) First time out this year lol. Do we have a list of who we are expecting this year?

1) G
2) Jay Gadsby
3) El Capitaino (I have faith that your issue will be fixed)

Jay, you wanna start another thread with the date/time in the subject?

I am still trying to get away from the baby shower to try and catch a ride but my wife told me that since the shower is at my mom's house that if I left her at the house by herself I would have to find a ride back to waco. lol
