Title: Video of Donzi jumping HUGE surf
Post by g on Feb 4th, 2013 at 12:52pm
This is all over OSO and River Daves Place and generated tons of comments.  Thought I would post it here in case you guys don't go over to those sites much.  This is a video of a triple engine Donzi 43 in the surf off the N. Cali coast.  I'll let you guys make your own judgements about this captain's judgement.

wow,  that was expensive,  i saw that and thought wait boats are not designed to do that.  then i saw the boat just sitting there.  you know what they say about some go fast boat owners.  i guess this is the case with this guy (of course none of my friends here qualify for such poor comments)  but wow

on top of that, that was not his only choice,  he could have cut engines at the top hit at an angle of with that amount of engine he could of got out of the peak of the wave.  correct me if im wrong?

Wow... And I am not a fan of the Lake Travis surf :) Couldnt imagine how much of his seat his sphincter ate on that one.

Wow that is absolutely brutal.

I am sure everyone is Monday morning quarterbacking it to death, he might just have been flat out terrified out of wise decision making. That's some pretty serious conditions.

that must be true,  but being from that area of the country we know well in advance on days when we are gonna have surf like that.

This started circulating about a week ago under a few different titles. One titled 40 foot wave. I read they got busted up pretty good. It appears to me they just didn't know any better. They were cruising at a relatively slow speed, they slowed before heading over the swell. The problem was they left the water. Had he kept the stern wet it would not have been an issue. Consequently they belly flopped at the bottom of the back side. Apparently they didn't understand the swell was moving as fast as they were and it was going to quickly pass away from them.  Imagine falling from a 3rd floor window into the cockpit. Ouch. The last thing you see is someone hovering over the dash.

Oh man, I was going to post the after pictures of that boat but it looks like the thread got deleted on another site. I'm sure they'll be back.

This really is the best advertisement for a Donzi ever. It'll go airborn more than 40 ft and still get your crew home. I bet those bilge pumps were screaming.
