Title: Structure repair; bulkheads and stringers in cabin
Post by mobileMERCman on Apr 24th, 2012 at 5:14pm
When I purchased the boat I was aware that the cabin floor and some of the cabin stringers were soft. As I often do I got carried away and went overboard.

Once I removed what was rotted I removed what had gotten wet and eventually removed all the would from the center of the boat.

Before long I had ground nearly every inch of the hull in the cabin.

As I determined later all this damage was caused by a screw hole on the bow rail that was not sealed. Over the course of 10 years it went un noticed until the previous owner went to sell it.

I replaced the would and vinalester resin with Kevlar, S glass and epoxy.

Obviously there were countless steps I haven't shared. I still need to carpet the cabin and clean the teak trim. I am building a garage and have decided to complete it indoors.

This is what she looked like when I moved to Jonestown last March.

I can't wait to complete the cabin trim so I can pull the engines and raise the drives.  :D

Awesome work! You have some serious motivation and OCD my friend :) I am still getting used to boats as a whole and have not ventured past the normal pulling of interior parts. I know who to call for advice if I ever need to pull up stringers and such lol.

Must be a really nice feeling to know everything on your used boat is just how you want it and no surprises. I am still getting to know my new boat and fixing along the way, doing as much preventively to hopefully avoid surprises.

MobileMERCman,  been there done that.   Took me 10 weeks to do my 20'.   Grinding that glass sucks.

Your work looks excellent.
