Title: New guy
Post by g on Dec 8th, 2011 at 12:03pm
Checking in from San Antonio.  Usually boat on Travis.  Sold my Baja last summer and just, last week, picked up a 2006 Sunsation 32 SS MCOB.  Look forward to meeting everyone next summer.

Welcome to the club G! Congrats on the new addition to the family. Our head honcho around here just picked up a Dominator, now we have a pretty speedy crowd around here. Oh, pics are mandatory btw.

Looks like we have two Nordics and two Sunsations around here! Nice numbers. Occasionally a Nordic Rage too.

Welcome welcome! Glad to have you here. That's pretty cool, glad to have another Sunsation on the board. Looks like we are getting a pretty good representation of the performance boats and a few cruisers. We just need some wake board boat friends so I can get out when I'm in the mood for boarding.

What kind of power did you go with?

Thanks for the welcome!  Glad to be here.  Captain Yarrr, congrats on your Sunsation as well.  You got a great boat.  I really like the color and rigging of that boat. Glad to see that it came to Texas.
Details on my boat:  The boat has the 496HO.  SS Hull, Monster Livorsi Instruments, Fusion Stereo w/wet sounds amps.  Blue LED's throughout the entire boat.  Underwater transom LED's.
Two things with the boat that almost made me back out on the deal; first was the non-stock interior.  The last owner replaced the Sunsation interior with a blue piping interior that he preferred and matched his "blue" theme.  The other thing was the name, which is a decal that is clear-coated over...I either have to get used to the name or spend some big cash to have it removed!   Ok, pics.  These pics were taken at the sea-trial down on the Gulf Coast last weekend.  I have not had the chance to take it out for a proper day on the water yet (are there even any ramps open?).

thanks!

Gorgeous boat, sounds like we have similar tastes. I also was checking that one out. I decided I couldn't swing the big blocks and the fuel bill. I absolutely love the look of that hull, I am curious how different it rides.

We do have very similar tastes. I was also checking out your boat. I even spoke to the seller in Florida a few times.  I'm anxious to get it on the lake. The sea trial was on Clear Lake, which is really not a lake at all, but more of a bayou of Galveston bay and only about 4-6 feet deep. The dealer hired a professional driver for the test drive and I had my boat surveyor with me who drove the boat as well. We spent about an about an hour on the water and even a few WOT runs. Rock solid through the chop and boat wakes of Clear Lake. I drove as well, but since I was unfamiliar with navigating the Clear Lake area, I only had about 15 minutes at the helm.  The boat is so much different from my old Baja 252. Powerful, faster, more stable, and the fit and finish are hands down superior to my 1998 Baja. I really loved the Baja, but I may have had a boat that was on built a late Friday afternoon :)

So I can't wait to see your Sunsation in person.  The red graphics are stunning!  You are a lucky man to have scored that boat!

I have only been out twice on it and a handful of times I've hung out on it on dry land doing some things. But every time I notice new details that make me appreciate it even more, the quality and attention to detail is simply outstanding.

Evan, I can see you sitting in your boat making "glubb glubb" noises :) I can see this, because I have done it as well lol.

I planned to do at least one this summer.  Don't know if LTPA has published the dates yet.

I bet that's one hell of a time. Should at least do a bar run if there's nothing formal.

Good to hear, I would more than likely eat a live squirrel butt first to be at home to be able to play with my stereo. My stereo sucks BTW, but dont worry, I got it covered.

Welcome to the boards, g.   Very very nice Sunny.  I think it's pretty amazing we'll have 2 spectacular Sunsations trolling LT (presuming you make it up this way).

Thanks, I2D.  Count on me being at Travis.  While it is close, I'm not a huge Canyon Lake fan.  I would much rather make the extra 45 min tow to Travis.  I've only seen one other Sunsation on Travis, so this will be a good year for the brand!  I have to figure out my stereo system.  The last owner installed an interesting set-up.  In addition to the speakers and subs throughout the boat itself, there are also two removable speakers that you can insert on the gunnels and plug into the system.  They look like the speakers that you would find on a wakeboard boat tower.  Not sure I would run the boat with them installed, but certainly good for rafting up!  I don't know who installed the system, but the amps are branded "wet sounds" which I think are a Texas company.

I have seen a Formula with that gunnels mounted setup and I really liked it. It would be ideal for floating in the water at a raft up. I'll have to check out how yours is configured.

How many subs do you have? where the hell did you put them? :) I think I have room for one more ten next to the battery switch. Other than that, I'm fresh out of ideas.

g -- I may be mistaken, but I think Wetsounds is considered a pretty high-end outfit.  Not sure where they are (haven't googled them).

I think you are correct, I2D.  I just checked them out on-line, but don't know if they actually did the install.  The last owner really put some thought into the system and I'm sure a few $$  The last owner was a Lake Conroe boater, so probably an installer in the Houston area??
I've not had much of a chance to play around with it b/c of my work schedule, but I plan to take the boat to Lake LBJ on Christmas Eve or Day and give it a proper running as my only time out so far was during the sea-trial a few weeks ago.  I'll get some photos of the set-up and post them.
Capt Yarrr, I don't remember how many subs, but I believe I counted four 10" under the rear seat.  I will verify next week when I get the boat out for the day.  I'm also curious to see the how the LED's look at night.

Subs and LEDs :) The import scene has officially hit the boating world. I plan on doing some...tasteful lighting in and around the cockpit, engine bay and cabin. The Nordic cabin lighting is actually pretty sweet, so doesnt need a lot of work under there. The cockpit leaves something to be desired.

I'll admit I'm bitten by the LED bug too. I've seen some underwater LEDs on Offshore Only and it looks like the water behind your boat is on fire. Pretty cool.

Wet Sounds is extremely good stuff, sounds like a hell of a system. I'm guessing they have your back seat setup as the sub box itself? I have one ten in a box under the seat. I think I may add another sub box on the other side of the battery switch. Sounds phenomenal now, but can only imagine. I bet yours flat out rocks.

wet sounds does make great stuff.  there is nothing better than a good lighting system in a boat.  the new under water stuff is great to light up the water if you are out at night.  it is also a good way to get fish around whem fishing at night.
