Title: New Sunsation pics in water
Post by Captain YARRR on Dec 7th, 2011 at 8:35pm
Finally got her out last weekend, so now I have some pictures in the water.

Looking forward to cleaning her up too. A nice coat of Hula wax will rock.

Captain,

What did you do with your Monterey?

Love the new boat!!  Looks awesome.   Really like the way she sits in the water.

Nice Evan!!! Cant wait to get out there and run with ya! Gotta love that "Hey I delivered your boat to you, but its dirty" grime. It took me and my father in law a complete day, 2 bottles of cleaner wax, a steam cleaner, a pressure washer, a bottle of windex, and a few other things to get mine clean, lol.

Cobalt, yes its a Mid Cabin Open Bow setup (MCOB) with a breeze way to the bow. I love the setup personally, but the wife wanted something to sleep in for mine.

Thanks!

The Monterey is for sale. Obviously a slow time of year to sell a boat. Last year around Memorial Day I had a waiting list to buy it, so I'm hoping to see that again.

Looking forward to you getting down here and seeing what that Heat can do! Yes, it's going to be a beast. She's not TOO dirty, but I'm sure 32' of anything is going to be a chore. The interior is probably the worst part. Lots of scrubbing the deck to do.

Awesome boat. I like how it sits inthe water and image it planes very nicely at speed.

Enjoy it.

I felt like my 22 was a pain to clean, this is going to be another nightmare entirely.

I might be tricky and make everyone show up for a cleaning on a Saturday before going out. :)

Funny story time- The Nordic arrived from California on a warm, breezy Thursday night. The moon was high and the stars were bright when the doorbell rang. The young man standing before me only served to block my view of my new obsession. After dispensing the pleasantries and signing the stacks of paperwork, the boat was all mine. I sat in it for what seemed hours, just poking around and seeing how things operate. I was in love,in love with the dirtiest boat I have ever been in. (You guys will learn, I am SUPER OCD about that stuff). The next day would be used for cleaning and registration.

The next morning arrives, as expected. Sleep was something of a loss due to my excitement about finally seeing my girl during the daylight hours. I get up, follow the normal hygiene routine, and quickly dress. I opened the door to the garage, hit the garage door opener and who do I see? My father-in-law. He is already scoping out the boat. I go down, greet him, he hands me a coffee and in all seriousness looks at me and says "Jay, I dont want to overstep my boundries here, but, well, can I help you clean the boat?". I quickly assure him that his help is more than welcome since this is considerably more boat than the Pachanga. We proceed to steam clean, wash, wax, scrub, grease, and spit shine her till she looked brand new. It was a great day!

Moral of the story- A) I have a kick ass father in law and B) definitely helps to have another set of hands there :)

great story everytime I talk to my mom all she does is ask when I am going to sell the boat.  I always ask why should I sell it and she says because I think you should.  right  ::)

What marina are you at?  Where did you put in?

I have it stored at Highland Lakes marina. I also put in there too, it is one of the last ramps you can launch at on the lake. Pretty nice deal on storage and then I get free launching.

highlandd was on of the smart one that thought a head and put their ramp long and into deep water.  un like the marinas that are usually in the cypress creek park area.

That's really good to know.  Thanks for the tip.  I'm bringing the Sunsation to Austin to drop it off for service one of the weekends in January.  I'll go check out the Marina while I am up there.

Let me know if you want to do a little cruise, always looking for an excuse for a run! Planning on one the weekend after Xmas as long as it isn't too cold.

Yeah, I am totally jealous. Make sure you guys get some video or pics or something of those bad boys ;)

Funny Side note- You may both have Sunsations, but you two definitely reside on opposite ends of the sports car spectrum :) Let me know when drag strip day is too, I am down for sure.

Of course I am partial to the Corvettes :) but I have mad-respect for the Vipers and those who pilot them.

My last performance car was a Z06. I love them both. I prefer Viper for a weekend car, it's a much more intense experience. However, for that reason, if I was driving it every day, I'd get another Corvette.

Since I dont have a sports car anymore, and my wife made me agree to no more cars for a while since I got the Nordic, I will be running my wife's Hyundai Sonata at the strip ;) 6-speed paddle shifter 2.5L 4 banger, should be good for a 16 or so hahaha.

I wish America would run more diesels. May bring the price of the stuff down a bit if we had more vehicles to use it. At least its my dream haha.

I hear Nissan is in the works with a Cummins, supposedly. It would be nice for more to market them, they are great, for work and play really. I wont be surprised if the Performance boat world moves over that way someday too.

you can order some boats with a diesel engine now.  chris craft has it as an option and I believe I saw it as an option on a chaparral.

I really doubt it, the RPM you get out of a diesel is just too narrow. You won't see it for the same reason you don't see performance cars with diesels.

Nathan, apparently that new V6 turbo pulls like a diesel!

i think i did the quote right.  i will let you drive my TDI with upgraded turbo, bigger injectors, and tuning my 1.9 liter puts out about 150hp!
nathan VW has a full size truck out there with the diesel motor in it,  i saw one in dallas it had the branding from there over seas models.  i posted about it on the tdi forum (allot of euro guys on there) and no one knows so i may have seen one that is in development.  the other thing there working on and i think its ready to come out is a diesel hybrid.  problem is that when they get crazy cool with stuff they get crazy expensive i mean cmon its a VW!

Oh, no doubt the RPM range is very limited in a diesel, but if you were to hook it up to something along the lines of a 2 speed tranny and rock a really tall gear ratio in the outdrive, you would be able to utilize the RPM band of a diesel. Marine engines are pulled back a lot in the RPM department compared to their automotive counterparts, a 502 with a 5100rpm limiter and a 1.5 OD vs a Diesel with a 3500rpm limiter and a 1.25 OD should churn about the same if my brain is serving me correctly (to early for actual math this morning). Boating is all about Torque really, and nothing beats a diesel in the TQ department :)
