Title: Loop 360 Ramp Idiots
Post by Shaka on Aug 24th, 2009 at 3:54pm
I don't want to come off like a broken record or be the guy that's always bitching, but every week I'm blown away with the stupity that I've witnessed lately at the 360 ramp.

Late model Mastercraft with a least a dozen on board ran out of gas.  So they tied up to the end of the west courtesy dock and went swimming......in the ramp area.   Closed down one lane at the ramp for twenty minutes.

Let me get this straight...they tied up next to the dock and went swimming where they were plainly blocking the ramp?

Wow. Simply, Wow.  :o

It looks like I'm going to have to start braving it soon, it looks like Georgetown is almost running out of ramp now too.

Was anyone yelling at them or saying anything? How long were they there? Nothing surprises me anymore

I did they same thing at jonestown the other day.  one guy actually loaded his boat at a 90 degree angle. it is alway annoying to me that almost no one sees that the main ramp at jonestown is a two lane ramp.

On that ramp you can see people are pretty rusty from the winter. When I launched this weekend the people loading didn't get the boat on the trailer on the trailer until their third try. It was a few boats too.

Yep, with the start of boating season here, you will see lots of rust and some newbies.

I have tons of patience for newbies and rust....we've all been there before.

Why is it when there isn't a line and no one is watching, you can back it in like a pro.......but if there's a line/crowd, it doesn't go as smooth? :P

I went to meet up with Owtlaw at his marina this weekend. There was a pretty good current going crossways from the courtesy docks. I had to give it three tries since the current kept swinging my boat's ass around on me. Of course there were plenty of people to watch :P

As you said Shaka, it's usually bad when you have an audience!

All the retardation you see on the ramp has got to make renting a slip tempting.

The 360 boat ramp is one of my parks I work at and if anyone has any problems, please let booth staff know and we will be glad to go talk to someone who is being an idiot!! Also you can always tell someone swimming that it is a state law - no swimming 50 ft from boat ramps!  I finally got no swimming signs put up by ramp...

you know i only trailered my boat once this year.  and once in the past 3 years before that.  so when i actually go and launch i am in no way as smooth as i was a few years ago.  always worse when there is people.  always.

Yeah I could go on and on about boat ramps and the things that have happened to me or my my captains. I like to call it RAMP RAGE!!

In the past while we were waiting around for calls, I would have my captains go to the boat ramps, either by boat or by car, and offer help to boaters splashing their boats or loading them on the trailer. Just as a courtesy, and good advertising.

That is a nice gesture, to help a novice at the ramp will actually reduce the pressure on the first timer and reduce the rage of the seasoned boaters.

I always try to help backing or assisting at the dock when I can, after all, I was once a newbie myself.

So wait, its not polite for me to sit out in my HO and laugh as people jack knife their trailers and such? Typically on Belton, most folks will wave me in ahead of them for some reason. I smile, nod, and trailer the old girl in usually about 30 seconds. I have helped quite a few people, despite my earlier comments ;)
