Title: Got your eye on a new boat or happy with yours?
Post by Captain YARRR on Aug 18th, 2009 at 5:04pm
I just got my boat this season, so I'm pretty happy with it for the time being. It does everything I want so far. Once I learn to ski that may change what I'm needing.

When I first started looking I thought I wanted a deck boat, but I think I am glad I didn't get one.

What about you guys? Looking at anything? Why do you like what you have now?

I got an old boat that I bought new in 1996.  I've been seriously looking for a new one the last three years.

Going to the annual boat show is a tradition.   I just haven't been able to find the "perfect" boat.   I guess I'm like Seinfeld when it come to buying my next boat.    :)

I've out grown my 20' bowrider (max 8 person capacity) and would like to step up to a 24-25 footer (10-12 capacity).

I had some soft spots on my floor back in 2005 and I ended up doing a whole floor and part of a stringer repair / replacement myself.   The hull, transom, and floor are solid.  Engine & lower unit has been maintained and has low hours for being 13 years old.   Upholstery is due for another refurb.

Every off season I add a little something so she's got a lot of extras.

Net net is, I'm looking but not super hard because my current boat is still in good shape.  Also, not having a boat note has been nice.

How rough of a job was that stringer and floor repair?

I am having a few panels on the side pop out and need screwed back in. So far that's the only major problem my boat is giving me, but that's mainly cosmetic.

My 21.5 has a 12 person capacity, but it definitely wouldn't fit them comfortably!

Having no boat payment is a fantastic thing. Especially if it mainly is taking care of your needs. The fees involved in running it are bad enough, storage, fuel, maintenance, etc. aren't small.
